Wow! You have got to be kidding me. Something I said actually made someone think about things?! Do you have any idea of how rare that is in my job?

Hey, my mom was a nurse as well. Did your mom gross you out with 'dinner table' work tales as well? My mother horrified me when I was a kid. She worked in the Emergency Room and she would disgorge horrible tidbits when we were trying to eat. The worst and most memorable one was a description of a car accident. Apparently a mother was driving a car on a road with two of her children riding in the back seat. The impact of the crash decapitated the mother and her head landed in the back seat with her children. I can't ever drive on that particular road without thinking about that.

She had a couple of other stories about decapitation. This could be why I am so terrified of cutting off my own head with my lawn tractor.

My dad (Bless him, miss him!) used to say "Lorraine, that is enough! You are scaring the kids!"

I really don't know why I ever became a nurse after all of that.

My mom works in the NICU, so her stories aren't usually as gruesome as you might get in an ER. She works in an urban, low income area, so there's a lot of drug addicted mothers and sick preemies. My favorite stories were always the ones about bizarre names that people give their babies. One time some lady had twins and named them Orangejelo and Lemonjelo after Orange and Lemon Jello. Another time somebody named their daughter Female (pronounced Fa-mal-"a").

Gotta love those bizarre names. My all-time favorite was a woman that named her daughter 'Vagina' because she though it sounded pretty.

One of my niece's asked me once "Aunt Di, do you have a regina?" I had to question her to clarify what she was asking about. She said that she wanted to know if I had a regina because 'you don't have any children'.

A few years later she and another niece asked me "Aunt Di, what is mensturbation?"

Gaah! Shouldn't you ask your mother about this? I did wind up having to explain all of it.
