magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

hey hey,
picked up Fading Trails by Magnolia Electric Co. the other day (Virgin Megastore on the Champs Elysees = best.shop.ever.) and absolutely loving it. Can anyone recommend where to go next with MEC or Songs: Ohia? cheers :)

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

EVERYTHING.

4 CD box set of unreleased came out last week.

Pick up everything that is Songs:Ohia, MEC or solo Jason Molina ... BUT, if you want one more, pick up either their last EP or the MEC album Songs:Ohia ... its hard to follow, i know

I'd go with the MECo album "What Comes After the Blues."

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

I STILL don't own any of their cds. BUT...they're playing here tomorrow night! I'm excited and I can afford to go.

I think he has one of the most beautiful singing voices!!!! Jason Molina.

I don't know most of their/his songs but Farewell Transmission is one of the most gorgeous and haunting songs, ever!!!

“I think music writing is a pile of shit,” says Jason Molina. “It’s like writing about a painting. The value in writing about a painting is that there may be someone in the world that can’t see it. So describe it and get the hell out. Sure, music writing’s important because you’re putting the name of the band out, and you’re putting an individual stamp on it saying, ‘I really like this.’ But you can do that in 50 words or less. You really can.”

I have been getting into them recently and am really excited to see they'll be playing Memphis soon.

Well, God bless your crooked little heart

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

I don't mean to be neg but Jason Molina is not the most exciting performer. it's all very subtle....their shows. the sweaterifics will all be out in true form tho! (tomorrow night) and the bearded ones...etc.

Go get Songs:Ohia's Ghost tropic, Didn't It Rain or Acces & Ace or his solo llbum Let Me Go,Let Me Go, incredible stuff!
I find the MECO stuff (bar the first album) pretty dull & derivative at times.

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

jason molina and MECo killed us with a riveting show onefineyear so i hafta disagree with you, Stumbling. total music-driven band, no frills, just blast us with their professional awesomeness.

i love the new box set, i am a total molina fanatic. fave is nashville moon cd from it.

old molina: i love the lioness/songs: ohia and what comes after the blues: MECo and much more.

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

ohhhhh! are you gonna be there? I'm thinkin..probably. hope so!

well ya know. I've had a weird 'thing' anyways, with their shows. first time it was the same night as a Snow Patrol show so was very torn and only saw a wee bit of the show...cuz ended up staying mostly at Snow Patrol's show. Did get to see and hear my fave song tho!

then last summer, when The Silversun Pickups opened...well there was that um...little um...flood! like some pipe burst and so the rest of the show got cancelled. little did I know tho, unfortunately, that they ended up playing at the Marine Club later! if only I hadn't been so shy and could've asked what's his name...Tommy Lee fellow. (har har)

then.....the next time they played here, was same night as show by Joseph Arthur. so again I split myself and attention and didn't catch all of the show. (this rarely works out however. won't do it again. not worth it. running between shows and venues.)

But...tonight! Will be a dif story! Focused ONLY on this show! AND....I am SOOOOO excited! Can't wait. Hard, the last couple of hours at work cuz so antsy to get ready for show.

Just listening on their myspace to new tunes. Soooo pretty! Hoping to buy tonight.

I didn't know that Jason Molina is from Oregon! I'd thought somewhere further south for some reason.

(oh boy! September is shaping up to...looking to be the Rocktember of the year for shows! All the great bands coming in the next few weeks.)

Re: magnolia electric co/songs:ohia

I LOOVE this song, 'The Tigress!' Love the feel, lyrics and the organ in it. Prob as good as 'Farewell Transmission'. Goosebumps song!!!!

that'd be cool to see Jason Molina and Ryan sing and play together...some day. I'd prob melt into a lil puddle of (emotional) tears. Not that that'll ever happen tho!
