is that he still does good music here and there but the best stuff ends up as B sides or on compilations. Even the covers he's recorded recently are pretty powerful. Some of the best songs he's done over the past few years:
So Lost
Empty Room
Shine Through the Dark
Black Sheets of Rain (cover)
Nutshell (cover)
Wasted Years (cover)
didn't even appear on proper albums. Meanwhile we get adult contemporary releases like Cardiology and Ashes & Fire. Between the two, there are a handful of decent songs. I'm really hoping he revives himself soon...

idon'tbelieveyou, he played Black Sheets of Rain at a Bob Mould tribute and did a live recording of it for some vinyl single. He played it a few times on the last tour too, including the Letterman online show.
And nick, Star Sign is decent. Better than some of Ashes & Fire.

A&F is pretty good considering he had more or less been in a 5/6 year slump. He's never been the most consistent guy in the world. I thought this was his most honest effort since 2005, but I think what would be great would be a record where he mixes it up a bit instead of a whole CD with the same instrumentation (still my complaint about Cold Roses). So what I'd like to hear is Easy Tiger with good songs and better singing (although how his singing could be worse than on that CD is beyond me).

I guess he has trouble emoting and writing meaningful stuff unless he's brooding. Still, he's gotten too caught up in over production and phoned in songwriting. I think if he recorded an album on his own, either lo-fi or maybe in his own studio, he'd be better off.

I forget who said it when Ashes & Fire released, but it's amazing how true this statement has become. Someone said "have fun listening to 'Ashes & Fire'(the song) for the next [so and so months].' That's kind of how I feel about the album. That song is great on the album. Most of the other songs are way better on Live After Deaf.

DARKNESS, empty room, shine through the dark...all great....but not the beauties we used to get.
i still stand by "Do I Wait"
it's a great tune.
"Shine Through The Dark"
One, two, three, four
Whatever happened to the old me
Whatever happened to us
Whatever it was it doesn’t matter now
Those days went speeding by
And left us in the dust
The car's on empty
It rattles and rusts
Whatever misses is permanent
A red wine stain or a scar
Like one of those if you flip the negative
Knew who I was, and even before
I even knew
Now just look who we are
And these wheels turn fast
These wheels turn bright
Reflecting every blurry moon that long goes shining
Shining through the dark of the night
Shining through the dark of the night
You know that house I don't want to buy
I want to buy it for you
The walls are made out of the wishes I make
When I close my eyes
And I’m lying here with you
Whatever misses is everything
My feet are sore and blue
Everything I ever said I did before
Was just to get me here
Get me here next to you
And these wheels turn fast
These wheels turn bright
Reflecting every moon that long goes shining
Shining through the dark of the night
These wheels turn fast
These wheels turn bright
Reflecting every moon that long goes shining
Shining through the dark of the night
Shining through the dark of the night
Shining through the dark of the night
Shining through the dark of the night
Shining through the dark of the night
