It is with a heavy heart, and a great deal of personal sadness, that I need to inform the members of this community of the passing of our good friend Renee Maceo.

Renee's real name was Ronnell, and she will forever be remembered as a huge part of the community we have here, an inspiration to the Twilight Singers and the Afghan Whigs, and a much loved individual who brought
nothing but happiness to all who's lives she touched.

Ronnell was found unresponsive yesterday morning after falling ill on Friday. An autopsy will follow and as of right now the family has not made any plans for a service.

Both myself and Greg are in shock. Ronnell was an integral part of the Twilight Singers, and without her help and support in the fan community we would have been severely hampered.

I know many of you will also be in shock and I encourage you to call each other, reach out, and support each other at this very difficult time. Words cannot express how sad I am to learn of Ronnell's passing and I express the deepest condolences to her family and friends."

I don't know what else to say, guys. I know this is the internet and there's a lot of skepticism to be had, but it is what it is.

She was very sweet. Does anyone have an update? How does one deal w a situation like this. Someone you never met, but knew pretty well.

A while ago, there was a thread about which .orger you'd most want to have a drink with 'in real life'. I didn't post in that thread, but I remember thinking my pick would probably be EL. She was always interesting, outspoken, and funny.

Incredibly sad -- I hope her friends and family are ok.

Renee was an interesting one. For whatever reason she seemed to like me for reasons I didn't understand. She seemed to revel in my not caring if I was liked or not. Actually, she appreciated that about others here too. She appreciated people who gave opinions without caring about whether it was cool or not (eromezis and Dan33185 come to mind). It didn't matter that she didn't really agree with them. She was always brutally honest with me and never had any problems calling me a twat when I was being one...which is\was often. She'd call me out for being selfish when I was at my self-destructive best. Renee would give me advice even when she knew she was being hypocritical with some of the advice she was giving. She was sweet to me when I probably didn't deserve it.

She'd keep constant tabs on me when ultrasound after ultrasound, or test after test came back showing possible problems. She'd be pissed at me when I would try to numb things because she knew some things needed to be felt. When I told her how well my son was doing last week she was so happy for me she cried. I will miss her.

This is kind of funny in a macabre kind of way. Not too long ago we talked about 'having our bases covered' in the event that one of us died. We both talked about how we had someone in line to get rid of our porn, personal pictures or internet histories when we died to keep from horrifying our respective families. If whoever she had in line to try to maintain her dignity is reading this- my folder isn't large, but it is definitely incriminating.

One includes the message that's from the first post in this thread. The other is photo of what was apparently her profile photo on FB. If it's a hoax, it's a very elaborate one. Unfortunately, it's very telling of the nature of this board that someone can't post something like this without it being called into question.

She had many internet friends through other message boards, primarily through the Twighlight Singers.

I am touched by what you wrote. i only knew her online. I always loved how she spoke her mind...and how funny she was. I think even more of her now...knowing how kind she was to you both, and most likely to many more.

It says a lot about Elevator Lady that Monkey and I were both heading towards similar fates and neither of us knew of each other's issues (well, I certainly didn't know of Monkey's...that's for sure). I think the most she ever said to me in regards to Monkey was that we were possibly more similar in many ways than any of the other members she knew. I never asked what it meant because it didn't matter.

I never really considered those times I was on a self-destructive path to be dark times for me until she kicked my ass into realizing how selfish I was being. That's sad. I will never dare say that she helped save me because she would scoff. I was depressed but I had ways of dealing with it through awful means. She knew this and did her best to stop me from having a 'found dead on a bathroom floor' attached to my name. She did it without judgment. She did it without pontificating. She helped me see what I had to lose. Possibly more importantly, she helped me see what others stood to lose in my absence. She knew me way better than most and she knew it. I made sure she knew it. She was better than me, but she'd never think it.

I never really thought about it until now, but it says a lot that she was literally one of the first few people that knew I was expecting. She didn't have to know before my family; it's not like her knowing would have impacted anything. But I told her very early and she was ecstatic for me. Not only was she happy for me, but she was also happy that it meant I would still be around. She knew my selfishness would take a backseat to something more beautiful.

It's fucking weird how odd of a headspace her passing has created. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the sadness I feel about the loss of someone I have never seen a picture of, let alone would have probably never met. It's always so easy to say something like 'it's just the internet' as a way to deflect someone's debate, anger, bullying, sadness or whatever. It's a lot harder to say that when you know it was those same means that brought you someone that meant so much.

She was very kind. I was going through some hard times myself and was told to reach out to E-lady. I never did, I wish I would have, I know she would have been there, without judgement. It was comforting to know she was always there in the future if I needed someone to talk to. I never met her or even seen a picture of her, but she emitted such a kindness I knew I wanted in my life.

Perhaps she knew she was sick and lived each day to the fullest? People like her are very rare. We are all lucky to have known her.

i never interacted with her on there really so it didn't mean much besides the 'damn, too bad'...

but now that the connection has been made...damn...just damn....

She was terribly bright, witty, funny, sarcastic, sexy, and fun. She suckered me into playing music trivia against her once then proceeded to mop the floor with me and everyone else in the chatroom. Though we were friends on Facebook and twitter and occasionally talked outside of the Org I never saw her face, but I was a little bit in love with her, and I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment.

Very sad news... my heartfelt condolences.

She was very kind in reaching out to me when a friend of mine died unexpectedly a year ago.

I've been traveling for the past several days and have not been able to be on the internet as all this has been happening.

I, like many, am saddened because I didn't get to know her any better during our posting time. It seems so open, so endless. So intimate yet so faceless.

But I am unable to share this sorrow anywhere but here--I haven't the emotive skill to describe to my tangible friends why I would miss someone I've never met--and only knew textually.

Her leaving has left a furrow in my heart, my being, that will hopefully be over grown with the realization that those we know online should become real.

I had in mind to maybe one day attend an Afghan Whigs or Twilight Singers gig and surprise her. I think she would have liked that no matter how standoffish she was online. I've been working out since I saw The Dark Knight Rises because several of my friends and I decided to be Bane for Halloween. I was looking forward to her reaction. Hi there - I'm coming to you from the SFR board. A couple of you have popped in over there to express your condolences and share stories of your interactions with Renee. Thank you for that. She was the backbone of SFR and there's a huge void there without her. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know how much your sentiments mean to her friends and family (and us at SFR, too). I was fortunate to have met Renee in person a couple times and also attended a coupla shows with her, with more planned this fall. I very much miss her and she was a music encyclopedia with a brilliant sense of humor and sassiness I loved.

Interviewer: You recently lost a dear friend in Renee Maceo, and I’m really sorry for that. What was her relationship to the Whigs/Twilight Singers landscape?

Greg: Renee was…I don’t do a lot of social networking, but Scott Ford, who is the bass player for Twilight Singers is an internet-y guy and developed a relationship with Renee. She started a message board for Twilight Singers. Then when we switched gears to the Gutter Twins she picked that up too. She’s a big fan, not just of mine, but of a lot of things. She ran a Pixies board, a Lanegan board. She loved rock and roll and she loved people. She was great at making people feel comfortable. When I finally did meet her she charmed me up and down. She was funny, really quick witted, extremely humble and modest, but mischievous. Honestly, as an artist to meet someone like Renee made me proud that she was representative of someone who liked what I did. She had a wit and sophistication that was pretty unparalleled. She was a very passionate person and really cared and did whatever she could to get people out to my concerts, and not just mine, but everybody’s. I met her three times and by the end I knew her well and liked to see her after the gig. I’d amble up to her and we’d pick right up where we left off. It is a tragic loss, and really sad. I anticipate that I won’t stop being sad about Renee’s loss for quite some time. She was a lovely human being. I know that people are hurting pretty bad that she’s not around anymore and I’m one of them.

I just found this on Scott Ford's message board. These are some amazing people. It's rather touching. I wish we would have known so we could have pitched in.

Just a quick update.

Renee's family is going to hold a celebration of her life at 1pm PST on October 6, 2012. We've been told her death was ruled accidental. We are planning to send flowers from the SFR gang, and we also are working to make a donation to a charity in her name. Renee worked with disabled children so perhaps we can find a good organization that serves that population. That info is forthcoming.

I have a Paypal account and will be accepting donations for flowers, with the leftovers to be used for a charity donation. Due date for flowers $$ to me is 10/1/12 (I know it's short notice). We can send to a charity mid October once we have settled on one. I'm hoping we can send to the org she worked for if her friends/family feel it's appropriate.

If you wish to contribute please PM me and I will give you my email address so that you can do so. (Obviously, I don't want to post that publicly here plus it's different than my usual one, for those of you that have my yahoo addy). I can send along instructions too, if you have never used Paypal before.
