Just came back from a St. Vincent gig. Man, that girl plays the guitar very well. Possibly the most interesting style I've ever seen.

Why?
I think she's a good singer with good control and interesting melodies.

Just doesn't work for me.
Like Anni Di Franco. Most times I hear her I want to kill small woodland creatures.

I totally agree with you about Anni, but I could listen to Annie Clark all day.

I'll admit she's a badass badass guitar player....but I just can't take too much of her voice. I don't know why. Just can't.

Okay. She doesn't have a shitty voice. Let's clear that up.
I just always want to take a nap when I hear her music.

She wasn't as great as in Amsterdam. Bit autopilot here and there. But it was a fun nice little (just over 60 minutes) concert.

Annie is a very good guitar player but she put on one of the most boring live sets I've ever seen opening for Andrew Bird. Perhaps she was tired or something...

Yeah she was the same for me Page when she opened for Grizzly Bear a couple of years back. Not bad to look at mind...

Andrew Bird must have taken some cues from her live performances then, because the last show I saw of his was dreadful.
Patrick Watson opened, and their music has a moody, cinematic feel with long stretches of tame but interesting melody and hushed vocals and then a buildup with crescendo.
I like them both, but I went in feeling that the crowd would enjoy Bird more and people would talk through Patrick Watson.
VERY WRONG. Everyone loved the Patrick Watson set and gave almost undivided attention, but the crowd either talked or slept through Andrew Bird's performance. One of the most dead 930 club crowds I've ever seen.

Maybe she has stepped up her performances this year, because when I saw her a few months ago it was amazing. She was really connected to the audience. I think she made a purposeful change to do that from interviews I've seen where she talks about moving away from obsessing over her pedal board, etc. Also, I saw her in a very small club, so that probably helps.
