Hanna. It was fun. I wonder how a movie with such prominent and overwhelming techno music will be viewed in 20 years. Will it be like some 80s movies with a chessy synth-heavy soundtrack, or will techmology music be like rock and roll and I'm the square still listening to Bing Crosby?

Good little movie. Solid performance from Franco. The cartoons could've been better.

Glad we agree. It could've been better.
Never Let Me Go delivered though. Much of its power was in things left unpronounced and repressed. No shock or horror effects, but it felt like a punch in the gut. Aronofsky should take note.

Bridesmaids.
It was good, but probably not "90%-on-rottentomatoes" good.
It was very funny, but it switched tones awkwardly a few times. You know how a lot of comedies try to throw in a "meaningful/tender/sorrowful" scene or two for some reason? They tried to do that a couple times, in a pretty heavily dramatic manner, and it made for a couple awkward transitions.
The only consistent criticisms I've read is that the tone was uneven and that it's too long. I'd agree with the first one.
Still quite good though, and an overall thumbs up.

Can't think of many good Dutch movies. Turks Fruit (turkish delight) is alright and I'm a fan of Alex van Warmerdam but I have no idea if you can find his movies with subtitles (if you can, check out Abel or De Noorderlingen). Spoorloos is great, also known as The Vanishing. And Theo van Gogh has made some good movies, Interview, Blind Date and 06 for instance.
Re: the last movie you watched?

I actually have 3 or four films by Alex van Warmerdam. I had to buy Grimm twice because my first copy had no subtitles. I still watched it w/o and thought it was great. It hade me thinking I had seen it somewhere before and realized it was his take (and a bit of a stretch) on Hansel and Gretel. Anyways, I love Alex van Warmerdam. That was my point.

Speaking of Will Ferrell, I saw Megamind the other day. But it was dutch spoken so it didn't really have anything to do with Will Ferrell. It was alright.

No, this one had dialogue you could believe.
Would have been a good selection for the film club: bleak, depressing and with little bit of animal torture (though very mild). Except this one ended on an optimistic note.

I was forced by a six year old to watch Iron Man 2. He will not watch films by himself ,so he sits on your lap and gets upset if you dont enjoy it as much as he does. Thankfully he fell asleep after 45 minutes and i didn't have to sit through any more of that tripe.
How can they spend that much money and end up making something so bland.Scarlett Johansson is always pleasant to look at though so not completely without merit then.

Blue Valentine
I'd heard the acting in this was exceptional and I agree. The movie was a bit draining. Very realistic portrayal of a relationship through the early infatuation period to falling out of love. I couldn't get this movie out of my head for a few days after watching it.

Rocco's Ghost, here's a review:
The existent title variations (Rocco's Ghost, Rocco's Ghosts, Rocco Ghost) betray a confusion as to what the fuck is going on, but the most accurate one is probably Rocco's Ghosts, since it's about Rocco porking a bunch of "flesh and blood phantoms." The plot, as it were, has Rocco and friend hit up a haunted castle for no discernible reason wherein they meet a pack of super friendly ghosts. There's some usual porno-funny moments, like when the chick wants to ascertain whether a ghost's cock actually works or not, or how one ghost has a little dog with him at all times (sadly the pup doesn't get to partake in the doggy style fucking), or my favorite: how one ghost keeps slapping his cock on the chick's forehead. For more supernatural D'Amato fun, be sure to also check out Ghostfuck.

Saw "Dragon Tattoo" yesterday and "MI 4" today....
They are totally opposite in nature...one is slow and cerebral, the other a bunch of action set pieces...one is based on a historical crime, the other a current threat....
Both were very good but nothing special....
I enjoyed the European version of "Dragon Tattoo" a little more (primarily because I felt that Lisbeth was better played in the European version)...still a good film....
The action scenes in "MI 4" were excellent in places...and the character development is decent for a film of this genre...but the plot is only spotty...still, I enjoyed it slightly better than "Dragon Tattoo"....
And I generally prefer cerebral to action films...

i watched a streaming netflix movie called "Remember The Daze" yesterday. i thought it was going to be utter shit. it's not going to win any academy awards any time soon, but parts of it were thought-provoking and the soundtrack was killer. also, it was a blatant rip-off of "Dazed And Confused" only set in the 90's instead of the 70's. me thinks the writer/director/producer didn't even attempt to hide this fact and likely used the word "homage" when selling it.
i also watched "Take Me Home Tonight" yesterday. again, i thought it was going to be utter shit. it looked like a novelty movie that was only meant to vessel one-liners from the 80's. it didn't suck though, even though topher grace overacted in most scenes and forgot that he wasn't on the set of "In Good Company". the writing was actually slightly witty and it was well casted (minus topher, whom i typically like). i also decided that i'm in love with the object of topher's affection. i have no idea who she is, but she bore a striking resemblance to kristen stewart, only her acting wasn't annoying.

Also recieved a bottle of Glenfiddich Single Malt whiskey for notifying the fire brigade last friday, so it's best if I mention it now: will be watching this tonight.
Will have forgotten it tomorrow.

This shit look cray-cray.
El Sicario, Room 164 is an 80-minute documentary about a hit man. He has killed hundreds of people, is an expert in torture and kidnapping, and for many years was a commander of the state police in Chihuahua. At the moment, there is a contract on his life of $250,000.
The “sicario” or professional killer, his face obscured by a black mesh hood, tells his story to the camera inside the very hotel room he once used to hold and torture kidnapped victims. Aided only by a magic marker and notepad, which he uses to illustrate and diagram his words, the sicario describes, in astounding detail, his life of crime, murder, abduction and torture.

aside from her stunning portrayal in the "princess diaries" saga she made some decent and commendable (imo) acting spots in "havoc" and "rachel getting married"

Best movie I've seen in the past few weeks was The Way Back. WWII Siberian prison break/desert wandering movie with Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and a few others I didn't know.
Guess it was a pretty big flop, but I thought it was pretty amazing. Spectacular cinematography/photography/whatever I'm supposed to say, sick acting... I know it's cool to hate Colin Farrel, but I think he's pretty damn good, and he was damn good in this, as was everyone else. Incredibly brutal and powerful and just kind of blew me away over the course of an afternoon covered in blankets because, appropriately, my heating system is fucked.
I watch a movie almost every day, and that's the best I've seen in a bit.

I watched The Way Back yesterday, because tomb loved it so much. It was okay but I didn't mind when Farrell left the film after an hour or so. Ed Harris was the star of the film, probably because he didn't have to speak with a phony accent.
I watched it at my parents place, proud owners of a huge HD tv. Maybe I just need to get used to it but I watched some other movies on similar tv's and I'm not a fan. Somehow it makes everything look fake. I remember someone making a thread with a similar complaint (Conspicious Narrator?) but I can't find it.
Re: the last movie you watched?

Yes, the 'soap opera' effect. From yahoo answers:
"I think you are describing a side effect of 120hz that LCD TVs suffer from. It's most often called the 'soap opera' effect because it has that 'too clean' video look that soap operas have.
I call it the creepy camcorder effect, and I don't like it. It makes major motion pictures shot on film look like it was shot with a cheap flip cam or something.
I've noticed that younger people like it, and actually love it. But I can't blame anyone to be honest because if you aren't used to 24 frame per second film, you don't know any better. I've heard some people call this 120hz thing as giving a 3D effect.
It's a result of creating addition frames or images that never existed and it gives the motion a strange look. Some TVs really show this side effect, others not so much. I see the effect in 240hz LCD, but it seems to be more mild. So bottom line, 120hz is creating something that was never intended and something that doesn't exist in the original material, that's why I'm totally against it.
I own two flat panels, one plasma that doesn't need any fancy 120hz because plasma TV don't have lag time, and I have one LCD in my room that's regular 60hz, I don't like the video look of 120hz.
So if you love it, that's what you want to buy next time, but if you can, see it the store first because every model TV that has 120hz looks a little different"

The Descendants
In no way, shape, or form a BEST PICTURE.
This film has been overrated. That being said, it's a solid movie that keeps Clooney high on my list of favorites, and the tone it carries is thoughtful and charming.
3.7/5
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Needlessly knotted, but an entertaining movie by the end. An end that came off as slightly cheesy to me but satisfying. Oldman reminds me of bill nighy in this role, he was terrific.

I really cannot stand Kristen Stewart. At least in these movies. She makes too many crazy faces. And is just too all around angsty for me.

yeah I can't tolerate her well, either
her voice, pretty much everything about her annoys me
I kinda feel bad saying that
she IS a person
a human being

I have always thought that she isn't even acting in the movies. . .she's just being her regular self. I don't know if you read the books, but book Bella is just as annoying.
I liked Kristen Stewart in The Runaways and Panic Room. She was okay in Welcome to the Rileys.
Re: the last movie you watched?

I think she actually brought something TO Runaways but my gosh, that movie sucked too badly to really use as an indicator of much at all

I guess I haven't really seen her in anything else.

If you feel like shutting it off then just fast forward to the last scenes when she "has the baby" and transforms.

Haha, I think he would of had to do more but it's a PG-13 movie, Lacey. Instead of breaking a bed he should have been putting on a condom PSA style and not creating a devil hybrid baby.

Re: the last movie you watched?

I have always thought of it as an "only have sex when you're married and sex is for making babies" message but anti-abortion fits in there, too.
Re: the last movie you watched?

I guess I can get both from it. I figured that the point where bella refuses to get rid of the baby even though it's going to kill her was pretty much saying that.
I haven't gotten that far in the movie but I've read the books.
Re: the last movie you watched?

When I read this book I can remember being all WTF?!?! It's like she sabotaged her own series.
Even if they all wanted to, I don't think they could have aborted the fetus without killing Bella. Plus, who would Jacob have ended up with? Heaven forbid Leah or something.

I ended up fast forwarding to where she gets changed. Good god this movie was awful. I'm glad I didn't sit through the whole entire middle part.
And I honestly liked the 1st one. but it seems like the movies are like that books and get crappier and crappier as they go.

I like when she opens here eyes. . .BAM vamp eyes.
The first one is definitely a Catherine Hardwicke film, and I like her style. But, there is no way any director could have made Breaking Dawn a decent film. The material they are working with is just too bad.

There's one scene where she tells her doctor, Doctor Moustache, that he has to promise to save her or else shave off his moustache. Then later in the film he shows up at her bed without his moustache...

I saw Act Of Valor.
First movie i've seen in well over a year. Should have stayed home, it was like watching someone play Mortal Combat from over their shoulder. No real plot, just an mission to show the Navy Seals in a good, patriotic light. It was a midnight show and I slept through half of it - only to be awakened by the all too frequent explosions. Wife just had a hankering for movie theater popcorn.
What a waste of money.

the last movie watched was Pursuit of Happyness. I put it in my netflix queue bc I thought my mom would like it, turns out she's already seen it. Good story, Im glad he was smart and got rich, but not made into a very interesting movie. I dont like how they made the hippie girl out to be a thief and the wife/baby momma was about as annoying as could be. I didnt finish the movie. I dont reccommend it. It was stupid.

The Best Of Youth. Six hour Italian movie depicting a family over forty or fifty years. Second time watching it... absolutely incredible, in a very accessible, non-foreign language movie sort of way. I'm sure a few of you have seen it... curious to hear some thoughts.
I'm on vacation and meant to spread it out over the week, but I finished it in a day or two. Couldn't turn it off. It's all character/story, and some beautiful cinematogrophy and acting as well. You will love the characters like they are your friends. I was really, really sad when it ended.

Lockout - stupid SciFi prison movie
Celda 211 - rewatched it because I had to turn off Lockout but was still in the mood for a violent prison drama. Great movie.

I went and watched The Dark Knight Rises last night at the iMax theater. I think the last movie I saw in a theater may have been The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger. Obviously I don't go to a lot of movies - or watch a lot of movies.
Before the show started I was bombasted with probably 8 trailers for movies I knew I would never see. Every one of those films had to take advantage of the super-duper sound system and have explosions that were at ridiculous decibel levels, to get your attention. They were all (or so it seemed) based on some comic book character or story you were already familiar with, and most of them wouldn't be released until 2013. Of course major studio movies can only be released in the summer or at Christmas.
The movie itself was really not much different than every one of those types of movies. More than half of the dialog was either whispered or spoken through some sort of devise made to sound extra-evil or bad ass... probably so it would be intentionally hard to understand so people would want to come back and see it a second or third time. Or maybe so you'd be tempted to buy the DVD, at least then you could rewind it back and make out what was being said. As if it really mattered. There was really no good acting, writing or dialog in this film. Of course it would be hard to convey any sort of emotion or feeling while you are doing that Clint Eastwood whisper thing through a rubber mask.
I give it about three stars out of ten, because it was stupid and tired. Still it was probably better than most. It will be another few years before I pay money to see anything like this again (which is pretty much all that is being produced now).
Sorry for the rant, now get off my lawn.

Yep. I think I spent a total of ten minutes with my hand over my face. It's the most profoundly fucked up thing I've ever seen in the theater. It just barely knocks Shortbus out of first place.
McConaughey did a fine job! No trace of Wooderson.

There's a great piece in the Guardian today about a week spent on a nuclear submarine:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/
The writer also listed his top 8 submarine movies:
Das Boot (1981): Based on the novel by U-boat survivor Lothar-Günther Buchheim, this is the submariner’s No 1 submarine film – gritty, accurate, detailed, slow-moving. Try to get the German-language rather than the dubbed version for added tension and claustrophobia.
Run Silent, Run Deep (1958): Another film derived from a novel by a second world war survivor, Edward L Beach. Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster ostensibly take on the Japanese, but mainly they take on each other. Submarines are custom-built for taut chamber dramas, and this is as good as they come.
Crimson Tide (1995): Another captain v executive officer drama, but this time played out on board a nuclear submarine and for the highest stakes, with hawkish commander Gene Hackman’s finger poised on the nuclear button and XO Denzel Washington trying to hold him back. Schematic but effective.
The Hunt for Red October (1990): More Russo-American paranoia, based on a Tom Clancy blockbuster, with Sean Connery as a Russian nuclear submarine commander who is heading for the US to either defect or blow the place to kingdom come. CIA agent Alec Baldwin has a few hours to work out which it is. What a loss the Soviet Union was to submarine movies.
The Enemy Below (1957): Superb depiction of a game of cat and mouse played out between a US destroyer and a German U-boat. The rival captains, Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens, are powerfully drawn; the denouement splendidly humane. Just that old problem that the German crew speak clipped English but say jawohl a lot.
Operation Petticoat (1959): Underwater romp starring Cary Grant as the gnarled skipper of a second world world submarine and Tony Curtis as an engagingly spivvy, fun-loving lieutenant. Film runs out of money and/or self-belief halfway through, but fun while it lasts.
We Dive At Dawn (1943): Wartime stiff-upper-lipper in which British submarine with womanising skipper John Mills and a crew of duckers-and-divers pursues a German battleship. Cleverly mixes battle scenes with domesticity so we really care, and ends in a blaze of joy and tears. British submarine captains of a certain era modelled themselves on Mills. Maybe they still do.
Above Us the Waves (1955): John Mills chasing another German battleship, but lacks the immediacy and charm of We Dive at Dawn. Doesn’t quite sink with all hands, but certainly lists badly. Plot twist is that the attack on the Tirpitz relies on midget submarines, but the real surprise is that it largely fails. Would never have been allowed in Hollywood.
The Earth is an asshole.

That's a tall order at this hour but maybe
The Lives of Others because it's a really compelling story and shows how godawful nasty and beautifully giving people can be.
The Philadelphia Story because it's so quick and funny, even as old as it is. It's so fun, I don't even mind the kind of creepy sexism at the end that much.
Raising Arizona because it makes me laugh without fail, no matter how many times I've seen it.

Great South-Korean movie that follows the career path of a gangster who's not really made of gangster material. Surprisingly little violence in it (mostly bitch slapping), especially for a Korean gangster movie, just a fucking great story (lead actor is the guy from Oldboy and I Saw The Devil). Set in the same region as The Yellow Sea, Busan.

"Say what you will about the horrors of war, but it makes for killer cinema (pun intended)."
If you're into war porn you should check out Brotherhood of War and My Way, two South-Korean big budget war movies by the same director, Kang Je-gyu. Both very much in the style of Saving Private Ryan, with spectacular gory fight scenes. My Way has a totally unbelievable scenario(though it's based on a true story) about two men who wind up fighting for the Japanese Army, the Russian army and the German army. Not sure why rottentomatoes gives it a 2.1 critic score, maybe it's because the final episode has them gunning down American soldiers on the beach of Normandy.
Brotherhood of War is probably the better film.

I don't understand how anyone could hate The Kid With A Bike. Unless you have to make a point about "foreign" vs. US movies. I'm not into that, I'm into good movies, where they're made is irrelevant.
I watched The Brotherhood of War. The fighting scenes were excellent, very realistic. Blood, mud and guts. But the "melodrama" scenes were a bit overplayed IMO. Well worth watching, four stars.
The Earth is an asshole.
Re: the last movie you watched?
- Author: tomb
- 9/14/12 10:44:27 PM
I didn't say I hated it. Just didn't see what was so great about it. Nothing stood out to me at all. I had nothing invested in the characters, the story was very uneventful, certainly not dazzling from a technical point of view (not that it was trying to be), boring if realistic dialogue. Just my opinion, of course. It was fine... harmless... I didn't hate it, just didn't care.
I also don't care where a movie is made. Quality is quality. But I swear it seems critics are quicker or more eager to like movies in a foreign language. I know that America makes a lot of trash, and I don't want to get in a pissing contest here, but if "The Kid With A Bike" (man I hope that's just a weak translation of a better title), but if that movie was American and starred a few Hollywood actors and was word-for-word, shot-for-shot the same, I guarantee critics wouldn't have given two shits about it.
The funny thing is that The Brotherhood Of War, for instance, is as Hollywood as it gets. SO melodramatic! And several plot turns boiling down to one of the characters going all kung-fu (taekwondo?) in the trenches, which seemed very "dumb American" somehow. I remember liking it okay, though.
Also watched The Raid Redemption. It was pretty cool... solid action movie, no depth or story or character development, but they didn't even try. Pretty sweet action. Just scrolling to the last few posts here... adding my .02.
Off the top of my head, a few foreign movies I watched recently and really dug:
"Elite Squad 2": Much better than the first one, as most critics have opined. Really good stuff. Brazilian action movie, but lots of other stuff going on. Excellent flick.
"The Best Of Youth": Italian, think I've posted about it before. One of my favorite movies. Six hour Italian movie that was originally produced as a miniseries. Follows a family for forty or fifty years. Complete stunner, tons of heart. You will love these characters as if they are your friends.
"The Chaser" (can't remember the Korean title... "Chungyeowa" or something): Well whattdayaknow, a Korean film that is incredibly violent and bloody and involves revenge on a very twisted criminal. Still, very good. Some hella direction, some of the action/murder scenes were amazingly shot, as I recall. If anything, maybe a little over-stylized.
"The Way Back": Alright, it's probably produced in America and thus considered an American film, but it takes place in Russia (mostly) and much of the dialogue is Russian. I live in Asia and don't quite have my finger on the A&E pulse as much as I used to, but it seems like this movie pretty much bombed. I don't get why. I loved it. True story about these guys who escape from a Siberian prison camp and trek all over Asia, trying to survive. Breathtaking cinematography, great acting, and I'm partial to survival movies. Kind of a more epic version of "The Grey" (which I also liked a lot, but not as much as this), but without the wolves/action element.
"A Separation": You guys probably already know this one. Alright, you probably know all of these, because I'm nowhere near some of you in the foreign film category.
Anyway these are just off the top of my head, foreign films I quite enjoyed, which I list because I am insecure and don't want people to call me a moron.

Agree with you 100%. I remember someone saying here that they thought it was better than Come And See. Ridiculous.
Nah, you're not a moron, but sometimes seem a bit defensive about american culture. Maybe cos you live abroad? I thing the US produces the best, and sometimes the worst. And I don't think there's no denying that Hollywood these days pretty much equals superhero movies and remakes...and it used to produce the best movies ever. Which is a shame.

Joost couldn't agree more about senna-everything a documentary should be.
I watched tyrannosaur paddy considine's debut film(as a directer).A very emotionally heavy drama.
I thought it was excellent. Two great acting performances.
Incidentally it has peter mullan in the lead role(mother superior in trainspotting).

Okay doc, incredible band. I knew that already but I didn't know these guys are really accomplished musicians: Billy Zoom's dad used to play with Django Rheinhard and the drummer (who's name escapes me know) has got some mad jazz skills too.

Another Korean movie, and another example of how shameless copying can make for a pretty awesome film: War of the Arrows.

L.A. Confidential for the first time since it came out when I was a teenager. I'm probably going to read Ellroy's L.A. quartet now because of it. I thought it was great, even though I really prefer Guy Pearce as a baddie. He plays SUCH a good bitch, it's amazing that he's a straight man.

No. Ellroy has rarely diappointed, except for the Cold 6,000 which he admits went overboard with the short sentence structure. Still a good book but kind of annoying to read.

Great film, The Chaser meets Se7en. But what is it with Koreans and revenge? 9 out of 10 Korean movies seem to have revenge as their central theme. Fortunately I love a good revenge movie.

Two more Korean movies that won't go down as the greatest Korean movie ever made.
No Mercy For The Rude: Oldboy-lite, some funny moments and some good knife fights but overall pretty meh.
Silmido: good film, interesting story: about a platoon of deathrow inmates, trained to assasinate Kim Il-Sung. Based on a true story.
I think I'm going for something American this evening: Bernie.

Bernie tonight. I started on another Korean one yesterday, Running Turtle, but I had to give up after 5 minutes. The movie was dubbed in Russian, and on a Russian budget. It had one actor doing all the voices: men, women and kids.
I watched a porn movie once that was dubbed in a similar fashion. Fortunately that one had plenty scenes where there was no dialogue at all.

Didn't think much of The Road and I really disliked The Proposition. Pretentious shite. 3:10 To Yuma is excellent.
Bernie was mildly funny. I liked that one Carthagian mocking the San Augustine jurors: "Throw another tire on the fire George, I'm cold."

3:10 To Yuma better than The Proposition? On this board??
3:10 To Yuma was a likable, entertaining western with literally one of the worst endings I've ever seen in a movie. I tried it again recently and just could not believe they expected audiences to swallow that. I admit I sometimes don't get how people can let a five minute ending ruin a two hour film, but... I could barely get into the flick knowing it would all lead up to that.
Also, I'd try The Road again. It's very good. And I like McCarthy. I mean... I don't know. I couldn't imagine what else you'd be looking for in a movie version of that book.

The ending was ridiculous, but i could live with that. It's a classic style western, not a documentary. The characters were all great I thought. There wasn't anything pretentious about it. I can see joost's point about The Proposition, it took itself a bit seriously, though I remember liking it at the time.
I loved The Road book, the movie was meh compared to that.

I don't care for McCarthy either. I think he and Cave (in his books and scripts anyway, maybe in his lyrics too but I don't pay a lot of attention to those) try to out-faulkner Faulkner and fail miserably, giving all their characters the exact same voice.
Overrated trash.
Once Upon A Time is definitely the best western ever made, followed by The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Re: the last movie you watched?

Glad to see the love for Open Range... terrific movie, very underrated.
McCarthy seems to be a love-him-or-hate-him sort of writer. I love him, but I get people who don't. Strangely, I've only read one Faulkner book (Light In August) and wasn't that impressed.
The Proposition definitely takes itself very seriously. But I am in love with the cast, the photography, the music, and the general... tone.

i wouldn't let costner steer you away from open range. it's a great western...

i saw the good the bad the ugly. for me if i'm going to have a westerns top 5 i need to narrow it down. i already have unforgiven and wales. good the bad could squeak in to beat wales. but for me, open range has to be in there...it's just a great western and beautifully shot...frame by frame.
i'd love to put the new True Grit in there...but i can't...top ten for sure.

Watched the 1st 2 episodes of Vegas with Michael Chiklis & Dennis Quaid. Not bad, but it would have been better on cable. Characters are a little too cardboard - good guys and bad guys. See where it goes.

homeland = totally unbelievable plot that ends the way it started, so they could add a season. dont bother..
Game of Thrones/Breaking Bad is the best tv since Sopranos/The Wire

Watched the first few episodes of Breaking Bad. I just can't see what the fuss is about. Seemed really slow, nothing much going on, didn't hook me straight away, so fuck it.
Started on The Killing, the Danish one. Hooked me right from the start.
The Earth is an asshole.

Oh man, you're missing out. You have to keep in mind that modern tv shows are more like 12 hour movies. You wouldn't give up on a movie if it didn't grab you in the first ten minutes, would you?

I just needed that feeling of seeing something so awesome i'm left craving for more..i thought it stsrted well but lost momentum quickly. They got stuck in the basement for like 2 episodes. Get on with it already!
maybe i'll give it another chance...after The
Killing.
The Earth is an asshole.

oh yeah. i forgot about game of thrones.
i was surprised how much i liked it.
it took me a while to get into it...but once i did i found myself really enjoying it.
@baptized, yeah homeland might be a stretch...but it makes for good tv and tense moments....but yeah breaking bad is exceptional.

Watched Mister Lonely the other day. It was Harmony Korine's first film in awhile back in 2007. It follows a Michael Jackson impersonator after he falls in with a commune of other impersonators. More light hearted and less visceral than his other stuff, but it was still largely scene and character based. There was a side plot with Werner Herzog as a priest who worked with nuns who were sky diving without parachutes. It never met up with the main plot but there were some great visual scenes. Not as good as Gummo or Kids, but pretty good.
