it's great. written about the people who saw through the lies and stupidity and managed to make billions of dollars from the crash. but you see the lies and stupidity through their eyes and really realize how ridiculous the whole thing was.

though it also pisses me off, 'cause I saw back in '99 or 2000 that it was going to cause big problems, but wasn't smart enough to know just how big or figure out how to play it. these guys did a helluva job.

Re: a book thread...

i'm with you sean. i lot of us knew that it wasn't a matter of "if" but rather a matter of "when" the housing market would implode but back then i didn't even know there was such a thing as shorting the market, much less how to do it. if only i knew then what i know now...

as far as books go, i recently finished "Killing Yourself To Live" by Chuck Klosterman. it was excellent. it's a (semi) non-fiction chronicle about a rock-writer's road trip across america to visit famous sites where rock icons had died prematurely and the backdrop is some cool introspection about life and death and neuroses and relationship failures and what it all means. i liked it so much i started reading it again right after i finished. i hadn't ever done that before.

I'm halfway through The Law of Averages, a collection of Frederick Barthelme stories. Great stuff.

I started on Matterhorn yesterday. So far so good, just got to the part where some soldier finds himself with a leech up his urethra.

Re: a book thread...

I just picked up

One Fish, Two Fish
Red Fish, Blue Fish

Yeah, I'm saving for one of those rainy nights when the power is out and the house is lit up with candles. Or maybe it will be one of those read in the bathtub kind of books. I'm not really sure just yet.
