I have no idea what they will do by R.E.M. but in all likelihood they were invited because R.E.M. covered their song Draggin' the Line for the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack.

Cool to see Throwing Muses as part of the lineup as well. I understand they've even been doing a few gigs as of late. Love to see 'em make that a permanent thing.

they range from $38 - $125. there's also a v.i.p. ticket that includes an artists reception afterwards with food designed by mario batali. I'd like to, but shelling out $550 for my girlfriend and myself may not be the best idea in the current economy.

Are they doing Perfect Circle? - I'll be seeing them at the All Tomorrow's Parties event in the UK. It's the three-piece line up though [i.e. no Tanya]

haven't seen you in a while virg .... how's the hearing? also, what do u think of accelerate?

My ear is still ringing. Sometimes it isn't that noticeable, sometimes it's much louder but it never goes away. A friend recommended a multi-vitamin called Lipo-Flavanoids that I've been taking but I'm not so sure they're really helping. I also went out and invested in a nice set of earplugs. At least I can help salvage the hearing I have left.

I think Accelerate is definitely a step in the right direction and has it's moments but somehow I think they could have done better. I hope that happens with the followup. I enjoyed the two shows (Raleigh and Atlanta) I saw on the tour, especially Raleigh. You can't go wrong with a concert that begins with HarborCoat and includes guest appearances from Don Dixon and Mitch Easter (there's lots of photos from that concert in another R.E.M. thread here).

Was that the one where Josh Ritter sang The River?

it was a good show. the springsteen one was definitely better, but there were a couple highlights in this one.

glen hansard won the night for me, with his version of hairshirt with just a mandolin.

darius rucker did a great "I believe."

tommy james was sick and didn't show.

r.e.m. closed the night with e-bow the letter with patti smith. it's one of my least favorite r.e.m. songs, but it was cool to see them.

Since the one recording that's surfaced from this apparently sounds like shit I do hope this sees some sort of official release down the road somewhere.

Also looking forward to the deluxe edition of Reckoning that's due this spring as well as the official release of some of the Dublin working rehearsals from a few summers ago.

any idea what's supposed to be on the reckoning rerelease, virg?

I have no idea yet but some details should start coming out soon.
