Re: nottingham rock city review

that is indeed true - you paid your money, you got a show - unforunately it was a poor show, as you say, and the audience was quiet, but they all got a show, albeit a poor one, which undoubtedly added to their frustration and bemusedness. or bemusion.

Blimey.....Hate to say this but I found the show to be rather dissapointing too

Knew something was wrong when I found myself thinking that it was not nearly as good as the 'Rock N Roll'/'Love is Hell' show the last time he played Rock City.

The version of 'Dear Chicago' they played tonight simply did not suit the song, saw a couple of people wincing as they played it.

Earlier this week I was one of the Lucky few to get a ticket to the Acoustic Borderline show which was funny, sublime and very special.

Granted, different shows by nature but the gap was yawning in more ways than one.........

Re: nottingham rock city review

I'm wondering why there's such a discrepency between alot of the UK recent show reports, and the brilliant summer tour a few months ago. I almost thought perhaps because of Cat having recently and suddenly left the band. the timing must've been so difficult. Or I'd think. or maybe. the chemistry they had had on stage... But then the Cali shows were supposed to be great so....that's not it.

what do you think it is?

course there are mixed reports but...

hey stripey... don't know if you'll be able to answer this or not, but had you heard any of the "dear chicago"'s from the u.s. tour on bootleg? is it similar to that or different?

Sorry, have not checked any of the US tour versions out....but it fell way,way short of any other version I have heard live or recorded.

All part of the fun of seeing the great man.....from a great performance at Rock city on the Rock N Roll tour....to extended chatter and sublime music on his last solo tour,to the Borderline club which was a real treat.....

Re: nottingham rock city review

I thought last night was absolutely amazing! When did ryan get so fucking good at guitar? I'm still on a total high from watching the cardinals rock the place!I loved the jamminess and the merging of one song into another, goodnight rose into bartering lines was amazing! As was shakedown into some heavy metal slayer sounding song into i see monsters! Amazing, best gig ever!

Re: nottingham rock city review

bigbaws is right. the '87 chicken in a basket tour will NEVER be topped. right amount of talking, proper amount of guitar wankery, intimate yet larger than life.

a truly sublime tour.

Very funny Bill, sums an awful lot up.

Re: nottingham rock city review

This guy's clueless. He makes it sound like the guitar solos were 20mins long or something. Not the case.

People, check out the setlist, see how many songs they got through. It was a god damn awesome show make no mistake.

Re: nottingham rock city review

Okay, I can understand how an some may not have got into the rockier RA and the Cardinals sound last night, but to slate the show as "guitar wankery and muso shite" is just utter fucking nonsence. It was miles away from the UK tour in February, but it was still awe inspiring. I don't know anyone, other than Neil Young, that is so fucking versatile. The man's a genius.

Re: nottingham rock city review

I wasn't there so can't comment on the show...

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. But I think the more people respond to bad "reviews" (and I use the term liberally), the more some people up the ante on the negative criticism. Some people like to engage people for better or for worse.

So, in the words of my primary school teacher, just ignore them. They're not worf it, bruv.

If no-one responded to the unflattering and sometimes ill-thought out views on shows, people would stop posting them. And then the dot.org would be a shiny happly aplce, full of flowwers, and candy, and clear blue skies.

"guitar wankery and muso shite", this must have been a James Blunt fan....

That's spot on sweetandlow.

Re: nottingham rock city review

fucking where were you all , it was awesome, ok i as down the front maybe that makes a difference, i could see his wierd red boots, and see him and neal doing the dual solo`s but jeez, people, it was great

i mean it was better than the acoustic tour, although the div that shouted each time he spoke, was a twat

he also played drums for neals acoustic set i think at least lol, and that was great as well

the set list was mostly cardinals music, erm we saw the cardinals, so it kinda made sense, what did you think you were seeing the greatest fucking hits tour

cheers

Re: nottingham rock city review

Listening to this bootleg now.
The recording is damn near flawless and the taper should be proud.
Sounds like an amazing performance to me, but I wasn't present to comment on the crowd response. I'm suprised to see negative reviews here (well, sort of).
